Meeting and Book Exchange with Becky Albertalli
On February 5, 2020, our author, Alec Frazier, met one of his all-time favorite authors, Becky Albertalli at Politics and Prose bookstore and coffee shop on Connecticut Ave. in Washington, DC. Becky is responsible for a number of inspiring young adult books, including Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, which has been adapted into the landmark film Love, Simon, the very first ever mainstream gay teen romance film. In addition, Becky has written its sequel, Leah on the Offbeat.
Alec signed a copy of his book, Veni! Vidi! Autism!, and personally dedicated it to Becky. He also chatted with her about his disability rights work, and the inclusion of people with disabilities in the arts and entertainment. Alec also told Becky about the review and the anti-bullying campaign and video that her work has inspired. He further mentioned that he is now a pop culture critic, and Becky has agreed to do an interview with him, which Alec will be writing up for Flickering Myth.
There was a talk by Becky and her co-author Aisha Saeed about their new book, Yes No Maybe So, the process that went into making it, and the importance of hope and optimism in today?s political culture. Afterwards, Becky signed Alec?s copies of Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda and Leah on the Offbeat.
This album contains photos of the copy of Veni! Vidi! Autism! that Alec signed and dedicated to Becky, a photo of Alec and Becky with Becky holding her copy of Alec?s book, and Alec?s signed copies of Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda and Leah on the Offbeat.
